Paung, 8 December

The ceremony of the 12th Mon Youth Day, which falls on December 28, will be held at Htan Pin Chaung Kyi village in Paung Township, said the organizing committee of the Mon Youth Forum (MYF).

The celebration of Mon Youth Day aims to bring all Mon youths together, help the Mon race and youth in the area, and keep them up to date with the outside world in all spheres.

In addition, it is said that the purpose of the event is to enhance the strength of the Mon youth and contribute to Mon nationalism, politics, and leadership; to exchange views; to increase the strength of the youth in the township; and to be able to collectively lead the national movement in a friendly manner.

According to a statement released by the Mon Youth Forum on December 3, the event program includes a performance by the drum corps, entertainment, a Mon literature competition, and a seminar on opinion.

Last year, the 11th Mon Youth Day ceremony was held in Wezin Village, Dawei District, a territory controlled by the New Mon State Party. The Mon Youth Forum asked the armed groups in Ye Township not to fight against each other and to prioritize the safety of the Mon youth.

Currently, fighting between armed resistance forces and the army continues in Thaton, Kyaikto, Belin, and Kyaikmaraw townships in Mon State, with local residents injured or killed and thousands displaced.

After the Chaunghnakhwa battle in Kyaikmaraw Township that occurred in the second week of November, the Mon people are still fleeing due to junta shelling and airstrikes in nearby Mon villages.
