Thanbyuzayet, 17 December
Two detainees died during interrogation by the junta after being beaten and tortured in Mon State’s Thanbyuzayet Township.
On November 30, the regime troops detained U Mya Than from Aung Zeya Ward in Thanbyuzayet along with a pistol and then arrested at least 50 residents in a row.
Among them, U Mya Than and U Min were beaten and tortured to death before December at the Wekali interrogation center in Thanbyuzayet District.
The military council did not notify the families, and the victims’ bodies were not returned and disappeared, sources close to the military council told Than Lwin Times.
The military regime also arrested businessmen and gold shop owners in Thanbyuzayet town on suspicion of having links with the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).
Families are concerned about the detainees’ lives because the military regime does not allow them to see their loved ones.
According to locals, the home and shops of Ko Ta Yoke, the owner of Hay Ma Wun construction materials shop, who was detained by the military council, were sealed off on December 1.
The military council is at present preparing to press charges against those arrested for alleged links to the PDFs under the Anti-Terrorism Act, said sources close to military regime.
At least 70 civilians have been killed by regime troops in Mon State since the coup, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
