The military council began using morale-boosting tactics for its troops after losing towns and camps in the Operation 1027 by the Three Brotherhood Alliance in northern Shan State.
The Brotherhood Alliance occupied military bases in Namkham and Lashio in northern Shan State on the same day that they announced the launch of Operation 1027, and the military council only announced that information on October 31.
The military council has asked artists to entertain regime troops and their families in Northern Shan State, and the business tycoons have donated cash to the military council.
According to U Than Soe Naing, a military and political analyst, “the military council appears to be doing different things to improve troop morale, but this cannot change the conflict’s situation.”
Furthermore, when the military regime is facing a military crisis, it usually does all kinds of things to morally encourage the soldiers, and around 1970, when they engaged in a battle with the Communist Party of Burma (BKP), artists were sent to the front lines to perform.
The Ministry of Information and the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization have asked the soldiers to send letters to the troops on front lines saying that they do not accept the attacks in northern Shan State, and they have negotiated to provide support, reported The Mirror newspaper on November 6.
Military observers point out that some roads in northern Shan have been blocked by the Three Brotherhood Alliance, so the military council could use the Lashio airstrip to hold performances there.
Over 730 donors, on the other hand, have given over 82,700 lakhs to security forces serving in the Northeast Military Command in northern Shan State.
Among them, junta-allied business tycoons from Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyarwaddy, Tanintharyi, Magwe, Bago, Shan East and Shan South, including Nay Pyi Taw, donated cash to the regional commanders in the respective military headquarters.
“Donating money by business tycoons is a kind of morale boost for soldiers who are demoralized on the front lines,” CDM Capt. Kaung Thu Win told Than Lwin Times.
Lee Kyar Win, spokesperson for the Kokang group-MNDAA, which is participating in the Operation 1027, commented to the Than Lwin Times, “Military council itself is in a chaotic situation.”
Currently, the combined forces of Three Brotherhood Alliance and the PDF have attacked and captured at least six towns and 140 military bases in Northern Shan State during the 13-day operation.
Similarly, the KIA and the NUG’s PDF forces have captured two towns in Sagaing Region that have a strong resistance to the military dictatorship.
