Faced with losses in every battle, the junta army carried out more targeted attacks on civilians, which increased the number of displaced people to nearly 100,000 within months, reported the Karen People Support Network (KPSN).
Fierce fighting occurred between the junta army and the KNLA joint forces in the KNU Brigade 6 area of Maekane village tract, Kawkayeik, and Chaunghnakhwa, with the regime troops launching targeted attacks on civilians and conducting a series of airstrikes.
The attacks of the military council killed and injured the residents in Myawaddy’s Maekane village tract, Kawkayeik, Kyaukmaraw and Chaunghnakhwa while some residents fled their homes to escape the fighting.
The junta army also pounded Mone Township in KNU Brigade 3 of Nyaunglaybin District, forcing 70,000 people from 90 villages, and they are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, reported the KNU on 7 December.
According to KPSN spokesperson Saw Paw Kalay, as the number of displaced people grows, there is an urgent need for food, and they are facing the worst hardship.
The KPSN also urges international organizations to effectively sanction on military council targeting the civilians, and provide security and aid support to the people.
According to the KNU, over 700,000 locals have fled the Kawthoolei area as a result of the fighting, and military council’s attacks, and human rights violations.
