Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolution events spread on social

media after the military takeover.

Today, the misinformation and images that surfaced on social media with the headline, “Welcome back, PDF members who have entered the legal fold,” will be checked.

On February 17, this content was disseminated via the Telegram accounts of the junta-controlled Ministry of Information (MOI) and Myanma Alinn Daily.

The junta publications reported that the members of the People’s Defense Forces were welcomed at the military halls of Tamu, Matapi, Pakokku, Shwebo, and Pauk Townships.

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and the content, and found it to be misinformation.

“In reality, it was just a psywar, and the PDFs they mentioned were the military council’s subordinate soldiers, and the regime simulated a ceremony,” Nai Johnki, CDF-Matupi, was quoted by Chinland News Agency as saying.

“No one from our side has surrendered to the military regime,” he added.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, “Welcome back, PDF members who have entered the legal fold,” is merely false information spread by junta supporters.
