Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolution events spread on

social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will check the report that was shared by military lobbyists, entitled, “Those who use the NLD party emblem will be arrested”.

This content was disseminated via the junta-proxy Telegram account of Hmine Wai on

April 3.

Military lobbyists have been spreading rumors online with photos saying “If someone uses the NLD party emblem, he or she will be arrested”.

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation.

In fact, on the evening of March 28, the junta-appointed Union Election Commission (UEC) only announced the dissolution of 40 political parties, including the National League for Democracy (NLD, which did not re-register with the UEC, and has not yet issued a warning to arrest those using the NLD party logo, according to reliable independent media outlets.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the report “Those who use the NLD party emblem will be arrested” is just false information spread by Junta supporters.
