Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolutionary events spread on social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will be checking the content of the photo titled, “Thanks to China’s intervention, the talk between the Three Brotherhood Alliance and the military council ended successfully with good results”.

This content was disseminated via the fake Telegram accounts of Kyaw Swar, Ko Thet, and Han Nyein Oo on June 2.

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation.

In fact, on the second day of the planned 3-day talks, the meeting was stopped due to a dispute between the military council and the Brotherhood Alliance, and on June 3, a clash erupted between junta forces and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), reported the reliable news agency.

Western News reported on June 3 that the discussion of the military council with the representatives of the Northern Alliance members, the Arakan Army (AA), Kokang Army – MNDAA, and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), scheduled for June 1 to June 3, was halted due to problems on the second day.

Furthermore, following the talks, there was a clash between Kokang army and the junta army.

The regime forces launched an offensive against an MNDAA base on June 2, just after a meeting between the military council’s peace team and the Three Brotherhood Alliance in Mong La, reported VOA.

An hour-long combat erupted on June 1 as regime forces attacked a temporary MNDAA camp in Special Region 1, Mupan District, and another two-hour conflict broke out on June 3 between MNDAA troops based in the Tongshan area of Kokang District and the junta army. During the battle, one of the troops of the MNDAA was injured, but the junta side did not report any casualties, said VOA.

According to the reliable sources mentioned above, the claim that “thanks to China’s intervention, the talk between the Three Brotherhood Alliance and the military council ended successfully with good results”, is merely false information spread by junta supporters.
