Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program checks fake news and misinformation about revolution events on social media

after the military takeover.

Today, we will verify the news spread by pro-junta fake accounts saying ” 30 villagers arrested by junta in Sadaung town are not supporters of People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) and Urban Guerrillas”.

This fake news has been spread by military lobbyists Ba Nyunt and Han Nyein Oo since June 13.

The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos shared by military supporters and discovered them to be false.

In fact, on June 14, when the army raided Tharzin village and ransacked the houses, about 30 local men who tried to flee were taken hostage by the junta army, accusing them of being supporters of the PDF and UG, according to the Sagaing Information Team.

Since June 13, the soldiers have burned down more than 600 homes in Tharzin village of Sagaing’s Sadaung town and killed a 60-year-old woman. In addition, the junta arrested about 30 local men, accusing them of supporting the PDFs and UG.
