Today, we will verify the news circulated on social media saying, “The military council is not responsible for the explosion at the Mung Lai Khet displaced camp in Kachin Laiza, which was caused by an ammonium nitrate ammunition storage facility.”
This fake news has been spread by the pro-junta social media accounts of Hmine Wai and Han Nyein Oo since October 16.
The Than Lwin Times investigated the post and photos and discovered them to be false.
According to eyewitnesses, an explosion occurred in the Mung Lai Khet displaced camp near Laiza, Kachin State, on the night of October 9, and the junta army launched heavy weapons into the camp, according to an Amnesty International (AI) press statement cited by the RFA news agency.
The photos and videos that emerged following the attack have been examined by the AI, and many churches, schools, and houses in the nearby area collapsed and caught fire as a result of the junta shelling. The explosion mutilated and killed the people on the ground.
The Amnesty International (AI) issued a statement on October 13 that at least 28 people were killed in an army attack on the Mung Lai Khet displaced camp near Laiza, Kachin State, and that the attack may amount to a war crime and the independent news outlets have also reported about the attack.
The pro-junta lobbyists spread misinformation that the explosion near the KIA camp was not the result of an army bombardment but rather an explosion at the KIA training area.
